Theodore Dalrymple

Anthony Malcolm Daniels (born 11 October 1949), also known by the pen name of Theodore Dalrymple is an English cultural critic, prison doctor and psychiatrist. He worked in a number of Sub-Saharan African countries as well as in the East End of London. Before his retirement in 2005, he worked in City Hospital, Birmingham and Birmingham HM Prison.

Criticising the 'New Atheists' (Harris, Hitchens, Dawkins, Dennett, Grayling e.t.), Dalrymple wrote: "Yet with the possible exception of Dennett's [book Breaking the Spell], they advance no argument that I, the village atheist, could not have made by the age of 14 (Saint Anselm's ontological argument for God's existence gave me the greatest difficulty, but I had taken Hume to heart on the weakness of the argument from design)."
