Schnabel is an award-winning American filmmaker, who has directed such films as Before Night Falls, The Diving Bell and the Butterfly, Basquiat, and Miral. [1]

As a guest on the April 1, 2011 episode of 'Real Time with Bill Maher', Maher commented to Schnabel that a hotel in Schabel's new film was the same one that Maher had stayed at during the filming of Religulous:

Maher: I noticed in the movie, by the way, it reminded me. It's the same hotel that I stayed in when I made Religulous.

Schnabel: Which I love...

Maher: Oh thank you very much.

Schnabel: I'm with you on that. [2]
