Saul has been designated as Canadian Humanist of the Year [1995] by the Humanist Association of Canada, mainly for the humanistic arguments he uses in two of his books: Voltaire's Bastards and The Doubter's Companion. The latter is subtitled "A Dictionary of Aggressive Common Sense" and carries on the Biercian tradition of the Devil's Dictionary.
