Francois Hollande is the current President of France. Previously he was the First Secretary of the French Socialist Party from 1997 to 2008, and a Deputy of the National Assembly of France for Corrèze's 1st Constituency from 1988 to 1993 and again from 1997 to 2012. He also served as the Mayor of Tulle from 2001 to 2008 and the President of the General Council of Corrèze from 2008 to 2012. He was elected President of France on 6 May 2012. Wikipedia lists Francois Hollande as an agnostic, in other publications he is referred to as an atheist.
"The Pope received Hollande, the first avowed atheist president of France, with notable coldness, in a formal Vatican reception room rather than in his much simpler personal apartments, but this was less due to the president's complicated personal life than to his social reforms." [1]
"'Everyone knows that Francois Hollande is not very well disposed to religion in general and to the Catholic church in particular,' Gueant told Canal + television ... Hollande, who was brought up by Catholic parents and attended a private Catholic school, has been widely described as an atheist. Jealously protective of his private life, he has only confirmed that he does not practice any religion while having respect for all faiths." [2]
