On the 30 April 2006 episode of Sean Lock's TV Heaven, Telly Hell one of his picks for 'telly hell' was the BBC's The Heaven and Earth Show He explains:

Sean Lock: "Let's start off with your first choice, let's take a look at a show that you hate. It was designed to fill the religion spot without being too religious. It's the Heaven and Earth Show.

[a few audience members groan loudly]

David Mitchell: "I don't know whether they're fans of the Heaven and Earth Show, and that's they way the Heaven and Earth Show fans show their appreciation, by groaning to show that they're still, you know, maybe not alive, but certainly undead"

DM: "The Heaven and Earth Show is just absolutely, a completely lamentable piece of television in that it's sort of supposed to be about religion, it's religious broadcasting, but they're afraid of mentioning any specific religion so just everyone there is just supposedly nice and a bit spiritual and open to other people's ideas. That's not what religion is; religion isn't about being open to other people's ideas. Religion is about saying this is my idea, I'm right, and at best people who haven't got that idea should try to adopt it, and at worst we should send a crusade against them and try to kill them"
