Editor/Poet
Pollitt, an associate editor of The Nation, is a noted poet and feminist. She is also an outspoken atheist who has been named by the Freedom From Religion Foundation "Freethought Heroine" of the year. In the December 26, 1994 issue of The Nation she wrote in her column "For me religion is serious business -- a farrago of authoritarian nonsense, misogyny and humble pie, the eternal enemy of human happiness and freedom."
